About

“HaigaGraph: A Haiku Art Collaboration” features the haiku of California Author Andrew Dugas, seen through the eyes of Montana Artist Linds Sanders.

In 2017, the exhibit was shown in both Missoula, MT, and Berkeley, CA.

The opening in Berkeley featured readings by Andy, ruth weiss, Clive Matson, and Amos White, who helped curate the exhibit.

From the exhibit description:

Experience the union of visual art and haiku in this series of 30 small artworks that celebrate the changing seasons, quiet morning moments, and the realizations that can be found in the rain beating against the kitchen window.

Art, the postal system, and serendipity united these two artists over the 980 miles separating their mailboxes.
In 2012, Andrew began writing and mailing his haiku to strangers and friends alike, concluding after sending his 1,001st postcard. In 2013, Linds received one of these postcards, prompting her to pursue a similar project three years later.

With Andrew’s direction and mentorship, Linds sent an original piece of artwork to a stranger every day in 2016. Last year they met for the first time in person and began collaboration on “HaigaGraph: A Haiku Art Collaboration”. Andrew wrote and sent Linds haiku that inspired the artwork. As a nod to their beginnings, all the small works are 5 by 7 inches, the size of a postcard.
